Surface Cleanliness and Preparation Standards
SSPC-SP2 and SSPC-SP3 for hand and power tool cleaning.
St 2 / SSPC-SP2 (Thorough Hand and Power Tool Cleaning): The surface must be free from visible oil, grease, dirt, mill scale, rust, paint coatings, and any foreign matter when viewed without magnification.
St 3 / SSPC-SP3 (Very Thorough Hand and Power Tool Cleaning): In addition to St 2 requirements, the surface must be abraded to achieve a metallic sheen.
Key Points: Surface roughness or an anchor pattern is not required for adhesion.
