Above-grade municipal water crossings place pipelines in fully exposed environments where moisture, UV exposure, temperature cycling, and vibration accelerate corrosion—particularly at pipe supports, clamps, flanges, and bearing points.
Polyisobutene (PIB)-based corrosion prevention systems provide a flexible, non-curing barrier that conforms to irregular geometries and maintains seal integrity under movement. These systems help protect exposed water mains and associated hardware, extending service life and reducing maintenance demands on critical bridge and waterway crossings.

Municipal water valve chambers are continuously exposed to moisture and periodic flooding, making pipe penetrations, valves, and fittings highly susceptible to corrosion.
Polyisobutene (PIB)-based corrosion prevention systems form a flexible, watertight seal that prevents moisture ingress while accommodating movement and irregular geometries. These systems help extend asset life and reduce long-term maintenance in both new construction and rehabilitation projects.

Polyisobutene is the answer for guaranteed corrosion-free gas, oil and water pipelines, underground flanges and valves, and pipe saddles.
Polyisobutene is used for external corrosion prevention of pipelines, either shop-applied or on-site for most applications. The mobilization and demobilization costs are extremely low compared to conventional systems. For example: surface preparation according to SP2 (or SP3) is sufficient; blasting to SP10 is also possible but is not required for Polyisobutene materials. The systems are simple and easy to apply. The system does not require special primers or adhesives to fix the coating mechanically. The system does not require curing time, so backfilling can be done immediately.
