One CUI Layer to Save Them All

Polyisobutene coating applied to an insulated valve assembly for long-term corrosion under insulation (CUI) protection.

Our polyisobutene coatings are water-impermeable and self-healing

Our CUI coatings, including Stopaq Insulwrap coatings, are superior coatings providing enduring protection. Insulwrap is a polyisobutene-based pre-laid coating that can be layered in any insulation system and prevents moisture crossing it’s barrier. Where CUI systems use Insulwrap to protect insulative materials there is no longer a risk of moisture permeating or encroaching into the rest of the insulation materials or to the substrate.

Our insulation coating is currently being used on some of the largest LNG refineries being built in the Gulf Coast to protect the process insulation system. Previous moisture barriers proved insufficient, so working in support of the engineers we added our polyisobutene layer to completely seal out any moisture.

Our polyisobutene insulation coating blocks CUI triggers

A traditional CUI system often has several layers and differing materials. From experience we all know that some of those materials are not meant to mix over time, particularly not when wet.

Our flexible and self-healing polymer insulation coating prevents more than just water from crossing layers and getting to the substrate – it is also an impermeable barrier between materials in the CUI system and prevents the natural and organic properties of all types of insulation materials from contacting the substrate. The polyisobutene-based polymer is durable, non-curing, and resistant to degradation even when other CUI materials have been compromised above or below. And it can provide this protection for 30+ years!

IESG’s polyisobutene coatings are easy-to-apply to any layer of a CUI system

Our polyisobutene coatings attract to other materials at the molecular level, making them extremely ‘adhesive’ with paints, metals, plastic linings, concrete, pvc, and more. Because our coatings, like Stopaq Insulwrap, are pre-laid and pre-cut they do not require on-site spraying or brushing; they come pre-made with the optimal thickness and can be applied quickly by hand.

Our insulation coatings are robust and handle demanding conditions

The burden of corrosion protection falls on the protective coating, both as the initial barrier and to limit the spread of corrosion in years to come. IESG’s polyisobutene coatings ensure a long-life CUI system and can make up for inherent weaknesses of traditional CUI systems. Our coatings are resistant to moisture, chlorides, sulfates, and more and as a non-cross-linked polymer our insulation coating can also repair itself and seal small damage and separation in the coating.
